Ecotourism

Ecotourism

Ecotourism is defined as “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education”. Education is meant to be inclusive of both staff and guests.

Principles of Ecotourism:

Ecotourism is about uniting conservation, communities, and sustainable travel. This means that those who implement, participate in and market ecotourism activities should adopt the following ecotourism principles:

  • Minimize physical, social, behavioral, and psychological impacts.
  • Build environmental and cultural awareness and respect.
  • Provide positive experiences for both visitors and hosts.
  • Provide direct financial benefits for conservation.
  • Generate financial benefits for both local people and private industry.
  • Deliver memorable interpretative experiences to visitors that help raise sensitivity to host countries’ political, environmental, and social climates.
  • Design, construct and operate low-impact facilities.
  • Recognize the rights and spiritual beliefs of the Indigenous People in your community and work in partnership with them to create empowerment.

Our practices:

  • Roam Around takes special interest in training its staff and guests to minimize the negative social impact on the local communities.
  • Educating our visitors about the local environment, cultures and traditions in a friendly way.
  • Providing jobs to locals as guides, porters and cooking staff.
  • Choosing Eco-friendly accommodations for our clients.
  • Strictly taking care of all the waste produced during our tours and brining all the waste to proper waste management sites.
  • Support small and medium businesses like tea shops run by females in Hunza, local handicraft shops and local guest houses.
  • Roam Around is also committed to work for the conservation and documentation of local cultures and their history.

Tourism has the potential to contribute, directly or indirectly to all the Sustainable Development Goals [SDGs]. Roam Around is committed to the SDGs and we believe that sustainable tourism can contribute well in achieving the relevant SDGs.
